I found a repair shop that claims they can not only repair my computer, but also save all of my data 🙂   For a modest price, anywhere between $75 – $125 they can reload Windows without the lose of any of my files and settings, and do it all in under 2 weeks.

So I’ve left it with them, it’s no good to me as a boat anchor, and we’ll see what happens.

Meanwhile, I’ve purchased an external hard drive capable of storing more files and data than I could ever hope to create, and I forge onward with a renewed sense of BACK UP YOUR DATA, STUPID!

    You know, I thought that too when I got my first computer and it had a 20meg hard drive. “Man! 20 megs! I’ll NEVER fill this up!” 😀

    Those slim little external hard drives, holding hundreds and hundreds of gigs of data in that smooth little thing…those are just pure science fiction gadgetry to me. I adore ’em.

    640GB of slim, sexy, black mechanical goodness! I nearly bought a flame-red one, but changed my mind and went with standard “too sexy for my cat” black.

    I love that they come with little leather carrying pouches too, or that you can buy those. Just in case you NEED all 640 GB of…stuff…on the road.

    (I’m being snarky, but I can see the use. Bring with me a huge library of comics, volumes of audio books, and a lot of music. If I traveled still, I could see a use for that. )
